Mediumship

Anthony Borgia and the Spirit Books he Authored.

Anthony Borgia the medium.

I was very taken with the volumes of Anthony Borgia’s work that I first discovered, and I also noticed at that time that it appeared his legacy was disappearing. No one, any where in the world had made a decent effort to chronicle all his publications. These appear to be all the books ever published in English, and there are publications translated to German and French.

Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson, the spirit who wrote though Anthony Borgia.

Anthony Borgia (06/10/1896-23/07/1989) was a medium who transcribed the thoughts of a deceased priest and author whom he had known in life. His mediumship was via clairaudience - he heard the Monsignor speak. The Catholic priest’s name was Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson (1871-1914), and he was a son of a former Archbishop of Canterbury, Edward White Benson. Benson was first a priest in the Anglican tradition, but later changed allegiances and re-qualified as a Catholic priest. Borgia knew the Monsignor while he was still a boy. They met in 1909 when Anthony was 13 years old.

When ten years old, Anthony was accepted into the Choir School of Westminster Cathedral, an event which was to have a far-reaching influence on his life, for it was here that he first met Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson, whose words he was to record years later via clairaudient mediumship, and set down in seven (I have 9 listed below) books.

Although he knew the Monsignor for only a few years, the impression on Anthony was lasting. He found, as did many others who met Monsignor, that his vivid personality with Its enthusiasm, sense of humour; quick wit, kindness a lively interest in so many things, was unforgettable.

Anthony encountered Monsignor more often than he would normally have done as a member of the Choir School, because his ability to copy down musical notation speedily and accurately, not to mention his clear handwriting, soon had the choir Master, Sir Richard Terry, making use of him as a sort of “musical secretary”. (Extract from this article by Marjorie Hesford)

Benson was appointed a supernumerary private chamberlain to the Pope in 1911 and, consequently, styled as Monsignor. He was a prolific author, both of fiction as well as religious tomes. He was an extremely popular author in Catholic circles and an in depth summary of his life is set out on this site. He died at age 42.

From the Spirit World, the Monsignor dictated a wealth of scripts to his friend, Anthony Borgia, and many of these were converted into books. He has a great deal to say, which he hopes will correct the teachings contained in his previous influential Christian books, written when he was living on earth. However the books that have religious commentary in them are only “Facts” and “More Light”. Neither of these books are particularly popular compared to the others indicating it was wise to stick to non-religious topics in the bulk of the books. We have recently heard from the Monsignor, and as these are received they will be referenced here :

Another very interesting document that details Anthony’s life and which was also written by Marjorie Hesford is here. It has this interesting snippet:

He was born in October 1896 into a wealthy family, the youngest of five children whose parents were descended on the one hand from a branch of the famous Borgia family and, indirectly, on the other, from the liaison between King Charles II and Nell Gwynn.

Although the family were Roman Catholics, the psychic abilities of several members were treated as perfectly natural and never discouraged.

The books that Anthony Borgia is known to have written and which include the words of Robert Hugh Benson are:

BEYOND THIS LIFE (1942) This book is the first part of the later 1954 publication “Life in the World Unseen”.

THE WORLD UNSEEN (1944) This book is the second part of the later 1954 publication “Life in the World Unseen”.

ABC OF LIFE (1945) This book has a different preface to the later republication under the title: “Here and Hereafter”. In this preface reference is made to the two books above as forming a trilogy. Subsequently the first two books were combined into the later “Life in the World Unseen”.

FACTS (1946)

MORE LIGHT (1947)

HEAVEN AND EARTH (1948)

LIFE IN THE WORLD UNSEEN (1954)

MORE ABOUT LIFE IN THE WORLD UNSEEN (1956)

HERE AND HEREAFTER (1959 but is identical to the main content of ABC OF LIFE. It has a different preface, and an additional introduction.)

The links above will take you to where these books can be obtained, and some free e-books are available.

In 2024 I heard from Mark Naftel who has received permission to publish some previously unpublished scripts associated with “Life in the World Unseen.” I hope to review this book soon, and it should soon be available for purchase on Ebay U.K. but is currently on Amazon UK and other Amazon global sites.

LIFE IN THE WORLD UNSEEN: The Unpublished Scripts Published 2024 by Mark Naftel.

The copyright in all these books is held by Tony Ortzen who received it from Marjorie Hesford. They will expire in 2059. If you would like to support the work he has done, I recommend looking at his website. All the funds he raises goes towards Psychic News, a very useful venture. He has some of these books in Kindle format and print at Amazon, plus his own publishing channels with distribution available in many countries. At this time I have removed my Kindle files from Amazon, but retain pdfs and epubs available on this site.
