Turning the other cheek.

I am here, Jesus.
I wish to comment on my teaching, “turn the other cheek.” I did teach this, and continue to do so. What I was trying to say is, we should not respond with violence or anger, and an eye for an eye.
In my time, many advocated taking up arms against the Romans. I opposed such policies because they were bad for these people’s souls.
On the other hand, I also asserted myself when I felt it was necessary. I was not advocating being a doormat and letting people walk all over us. That is a false interpretation of my message. I simply meant, not to respond in kind, but in love and kindness.
Self-assertion is a necessity on the spiritual path. The question is, what is the best way that this can be done. Many have rejected this teaching because they have felt it represents a cowardly weakness, when in fact it takes far more strength than one who operates merely on the animal level.
